Students Summer: Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program


TexPREP recruits middle and high school students for an eight-week summer program designed to enrich their scientific skills, provide them mentoring, increase their chances of going to college, and motivate them to pursue science and engineering studies. The Summer 2010 TexPREP sessions will be held in Alpine, Arlington, Austin, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Edinburg, Fort Worth, Harlingen, Houston, Laredo, Lubbock, McAllen, Permian Basin (Midland-Odessa), San Antonio, and Victoria. Students in these cities are encouraged to contact the program directors.

Summer Programs: U. Illinois, Grades 9-12

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign offers two week-long residental programs in June and July: Exploring Your Options introduces high school rising juniors and seniors to the field of engineering; Discover Engineering is for rising sophomores interested in math and science to work on projects incorporating different aspects of engineering.

Stanford U. Student Summer Institutes 2010

The EPGY Summer Institutes are 2-to-4-week residential programs for academically talented and motivated middle and high-school students. The Summer Institutes provide an opportunity for students to pursue their intellectual curiosity and meet others who share their interests and abilities. Participants are enrolled in a single intensive-study course, taught by a Stanford instructor, and covering topics not typically presented at their grade level. Costs range from $5,900 to $3,175, with limited financial aid. $40 Application fee waived for application submitted by Jan. 13, 2010.

Drexel U. 3-Week Summer Lab


Drexel University’s Engineering Summer Mentorship Program is a dynamic, 3-week research experience that provides high school students with the opportunity to work in a Drexel laboratory on an individualized research project. In addition to the educational experience that research provides, students will gain a competitive edge in the college application office and foster relationships with faculty mentors as well as like-minded high school students.
