Kathryn Gleason

Kathryn-GMechanical Engineer

I love being able to experience how a product is actually made and making improvements that directly affect its process and quality.  Currently I am working as a processing intern on a water conservation project for Frito Lay in Williamsport, PA.  I feel like I’m in an episode of “How It’s Made” everyday.

I think it’s really important that professionals in the manufacturing field continue to make strides in resource conservation, so I hope to do my part for my future full time employer in that respect. It’s reassuring to see major corporations providing incentives for plants that are implementing environmentally friendly practices, and I would really like to be a part of that initiative.

I plan on being a manager for a manufacturing company.  As long as I love my job, I am fine being at any level of management.  But if my company will benefit from me climbing the ladder and I will still enjoy what I’m doing, then I will pursue higher levels of management. Management should not be about stroking one’s own ego; it should be about providing a positive, open, and safe working environment for your co-workers.
