George Washington University invites local Washington, D.C. high school students to present their business ideas, get feedback on their concept, and win start-up capital. The contest can provide excellent support for students seeking to market an engineering innovation. $750 first prize. Orientation: October 23, 2010. Registration Deadline: October 31, 2010.

The Mother Daughter TEA (Technology Engineering Aptitude) events are 1-day professional development workshops to train participants in holding their own Mother/Daughter TEAs. K-12 students are invited to enter the 2010 USA Science & Engineering Festival Kavli Science Video Contest with videos that are creative, surprising, and “contagious,” spreading science enthusiasm to others. Videos might explore a scientific concept, show the wonders of nature, show what scientific discovery has done for us in the past or will do for us in the future, introduce a great scientist or engineer, or simply show why we should care about science and/or engineering. Prizes include a screening on the National Mall, money, and possibly even a trip to the Science Expo in Washington D.C. Deadline: July 15, 2010.
The Sustainable Dream House Contest invites students in grades 5-8 and 9-12 to design a residential home that a family of four could comfortably live in that takes advantage of sustainable design concepts such as energy efficiency, reusable natural resources, the sun and much more. Winners will have a chance to present their submission in Washington, D.C. during the USA Science and Engineering Festival – Expo on the National Mall, October 23 and 24, 2010. Submission deadline: September 15, 2010.
