Regina Reed
Aerospace Engineer
One of my favorite things about engineering is seeing a project all the way though. As a senior, I was involved in a project along with five other aerospace seniors to build a remote controlled airplane with a 9 ½ foot wing span. The project had many design constraints such as take-off distance, required payloads, and overall size. Working on such a challenging design project allowed me to put my engineering skills to the test and made me realize how important teamwork and determination is not only in an engineering setting but on a day to day basis.
Currently I am working as an intern in the Mechanical Subsystems Design (MSD) Department at Raytheon. I have already had moments where I didn’t know what to do or how to move forward. However, by asking some questions and persevering, I manage to continue forward, learning along the way. My intern experience is leading me through many areas of engineering already and is preparing me for my future.
After graduate school I plan to continue working as an aerospace engineer in industry, designing airplanes and advancing their aerodynamics. As engineers, we can improve upon and progress the technologies of today. It is the engineers that propel society forward, make things safer, cheaper, and more efficient, and that is why engineering is so rewarding.
