Looks like the pioneering motion-capture technology that made Avatar possible will have applications that go beyond Hollywood. Ford is currently using new motion-capture techniques to help their engineers design vehicles that are more comfortable and safe. Video after jump.

Remember the Chem-E Car Competition in Nashville we posted about earlier? Well, it looks like the team of chemical engineering students from Northeastern University have captured first place with their hydrogen-powered vehicle. The Aluminator, as the students named it, is a small car that looks like a toy but is actually capable of producing its own hydrogen fuel – pretty neat! [Boston.com]

Anne Forschner, a transportation design student at Pforzheim University in Germany, worked with BMW to create this jaw dropping fish-like car. The Lovos has 260 “scales” that can rotate via hinges to function as both solar panels and air brakes. [Core77]
