Rules-EligibilityThe 2011 DuPont Challenge invites students in grades 7-12 to write a 700 to 1,000-word essay discussing a scientific discovery, theory, event, or technological application that has captured their interest. Engineers Rebuild Eroded Shoreline

Lake Michigan

In a project that is one of the top 5 finalists in the annual awards for Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement, a team of engineers and architects have effectively rebuilt an eroding coastline along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. Not only have they reinforced the shore in a way that respects the natural beauty of the landscape, but they were also able to add a recreational trail and strategically placed rocks to combat erosion.

The Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math, and Science (AHETEMS) Scholarship Program is designed to enhance and achieve the potential of Latino students pursuing degrees in engineering, math and science. Merit-based and need-based scholarships are awarded, in the amount of $1,000 – $5,000, to deserving Latino/a high school graduating seniors, who demonstrate both significant motivation and aptitude for a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
