Virginia Demonstration Project at ONR

VDPThe Virginia Demonstration Project (VDP) is a science and math outreach program for 7th and 8th grade students. The VDP is funded by the Office of Naval Research and is currently being piloted in the middle schools of Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George County, Virginia. Scientists and engineers employed at the nearby Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia, work alongside the teachers, and, serving as mentors and role models, use problem based learning techniques to give a real-world, Navy-flavored realism to the educational experience. The objective of the program is to increase interest among the students in pursuing careers in math, science, and engineering.

Kids Career Day at The University of Akron-College of Engineering

KCDDON’T MISS OUT ON KIDS CAREER DAY! Just around the corner is your unique and exciting chance to touch science!!! Kids Career Day is a ½ day program that is designed to involve children in interactive activities related to occupations in engineering, science, technology, and math. It will be held on February 13th, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (registration begins at 7:30 a.m.). Each activity at Kids Career Day showcases professional women who are currently employed as scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. Girls, Engineering, Math & Science (GEMS) at South Dakota State University

GEMSThis one day workshop for 8th grade girls provides an opportunity to explore interests in science and technology. This workshop is scheduled every March on the SDSU campus. During the workshop students will interact with professional women from industry as well as with professors and students from SDSU. The goals of this workshop are to introduce 8th grade girls to engineering, math, and science through a highly dynamic program of hands-on activities, increase student and parent knowledge of engineering, math and science with regard to academic prepartion and professional opportunities, provide an environment that facilitates learning and excitement about engineering, science and math and inspire 8th grade girls to continue to pursue the courses of study introduced in the workshop.

Explorations In Engineering (EIE) at Michigan Technological University

EIESpecifically targeting students from populations underrepresented in engineering and science fields (minority or economically disadvantaged students), the Explorations in Engineering Workshop allows high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors the opportunity to investigate college options and careers in these fields. Practicing minority engineers from industry and the government, educators, and university faculty lead informational sessions and discussions. Each session includes sessions in ten engineering fields, a laboratory experience, a team engineering project, and time to interact formally and informally with role models and talented peers.
