The Virginia Demonstration Project (VDP) is a science and math outreach program for 7th and 8th grade students. The VDP is funded by the Office of Naval Research and is currently being piloted in the middle schools of Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George County, Virginia. Scientists and engineers employed at the nearby Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia, work alongside the teachers, and, serving as mentors and role models, use problem based learning techniques to give a real-world, Navy-flavored realism to the educational experience. The objective of the program is to increase interest among the students in pursuing careers in math, science, and engineering.

DON’T MISS OUT ON KIDS CAREER DAY! Just around the corner is your unique and exciting chance to touch science!!! Kids Career Day is a ½ day program that is designed to involve children in interactive activities related to occupations in engineering, science, technology, and math. It will be held on February 13th, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. (registration begins at 7:30 a.m.). Each activity at Kids Career Day showcases professional women who are currently employed as scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. Enjoy a morning filled with the fun side of science and math sponsored by Lockheed Martin, The University of Akron and Girl Scouts! Registration begins December 15th, 2009.
