If you thought bike lanes in the sky were cool, chances are you’ll be really psyched about the Shweeb, the world’s first human-powered monorail. A few creative New Zealanders designed a transportation system that would have commuters whizzing through the city in aerodynamic capsules. Shweeb riders can reach speeds up to 20 mph using less energy than it takes to walk!

These days, living inside a bubble is beginning to look more and more attractive. South Korea is planning to construct a series of giant eco domes that mimic the world’s ecosystems while providing a place for scientists and regular citizens to study the environment.
We’ve written about smog-eating cement and vertical farms, but now, green buildings may have the ability to recreate entire ecological environments. Designed by SAMOO Architects and Engineers, the Ecorium Project spans 33,000 square meters and will feature an education center, a wild plant area, a wetland reserve, an environmentally-focused think tank, and a large system of interconnected greenhouses.

Every 15 seconds, one child in the world dies due to contaminated water. This is because approximately 2.6 billion people lack sanitation.
To combat this issue, the revolutionary Peepoo bag was designed to provide people in developing countries with their own portable toilet. The Peepoo bag can be used sitting, squatting, or standing, and can be placed in a small bucket or simply held in your hand (a thin gauze prevents contamination). The bag is clean to handle and remains odor-free for at least 24 hours, making it possible to store in the immediate environment, as well as bury underground.
