2010 Summer Institute in Engineering: Engineering the Elements – Polymers and Electronic Ceramics. This exciting residential program at Alfred University, June 27-July 1, 2010, offers students in grades 11 and 12 an opportunity to learn more about engineering; to sample life on a college campus; and to meet other students with similar interests and academic ability. The Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, OH, offers several summer science and engineering camps for kids of all ages. Teens can explore amusement park technology, robotics, and video games. Pre-teens can explore planet Earth, aeronautics, and animal adaptations. Even the little ones can dig for dinos, visit a local watershed, and build and launch boats.

Students’ Summer: Robotics at Madison, Wisconsin. July – August


The 2010 BadgerBOTS Robotics Summer Daycamp will be held at Memorial High School, Madison, Wisconsin for students in grades 4 through 8th. The camp is designed to teach campers everything about basic principles of design, programming, and the engineering process through the creation of LEGO robots. The activities allow students of all ability levels and experience to learn new skills and build a genuine pride in their accomplishments. The camp includes fieldtrips to the planetarium for robots in space and possibly other local sites. Dates: Four sessions, from July 26-August 20. Cost: $500.

Students’ Summer: Aerospace at U. Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Illinois Aerospace Institute summer camp – IAI is a one-week residential program, June 11-17, 2010, for students grades 9-12 interested in aerospace engineering and aviation, held on the campus of the University of Illinois At Urbana-Champaign. Students learn about a variety of topics relating to aerospace engineering through classroom sessions, laboratories, demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Cost.$700. Application Deadline: April 15.
