Space Station Now Home to “Butterflynauts”

The Painted Lady by fesoj

On Dec. 1, four Painted Lady butterflies began living in the International Space Station as part of an educational experiment.

Students have been following the new visitors’ development from larvae to butterflies. Videos of the tiny space explorers will be available at BioEd Online and photos have already been posted.  As larvae, they had no trouble navigating in space, but now research will begin on the adult butterflies’ growth and development.

You can read more about the “Butterflynauts” here and how they got there.
